Bosley Recruits Saynave & S.T.S. for Cross-continental Collaboration with “Are We Giving Up?” (Remix)

Saynave is a rapper/producer from Philly and living in Philly. Bosely is a singer/song-writer, multi-instrumentalist, producer, etc. hailing from Baltimore and living in Berlin, Germany, and S.T.S./Sugar Tongue Slim is an emcee and home gardening afficionado from Atlanta, once based out of Philly, and now living in Dortmund, Germany. Man, talk about a real deal cross-continental collaborative effort! Like many music creation and collaborative origin stories of this day and age, I guess it’s safe to say this one was either halted and/or accelerated by the circumstances and limitations surrounding COVID-19 times. I’ll just let Philly phenom Saynave take it away from here: “Bosley released the original [“Are We Giving Up?”] in 2020, shot a cool music video, and even got it synced on Couples Therapy on Showtime. Recently, he was looking to do remixes to some of his songs and this was the first song up. He linked up with S.T.S. in Germany and cut some vocals. Bosley & I are on the same label (Fogwood Records) and he asked me to hop on, too (of course, I said “yea!”) We did all the work last year, but wanted it to release during the spring/summer since it has a summer vibe. That's the quick summary, but they can probably tell you how they met and give even more detail.”

Bosley, who initially released the original song back in 2020 and reached out to both S.T.S. & Saynave further explains: ”I was a long-time fan of S.T.S. since I heard him on some guest verses on [The Roots’] How I Got Over (2010). I went to record some new records in Philadelphia at the end of 2019 with Rick Frederick, who, incidentally, produced those sessions with The Roots—a fact which I didn’t find out until we were already a couple of days into recording. While I was working on “Are We Giving Up?” I kept saying we should do a remix with an emcee and thought Slim [S.T.S.] would be a perfect fit for the tune. I released the single in 2020, but never let go of the idea of putting some rappers on a remix.” Bosley continued, via email, explaining, “fast-forward to half-way [through] The Pandemic, I guess, it was 2021 or so. In the interval, I had moved to Europe and settled in Berlin. I think I wrote S.T.S. on [Instagram] on a whim or, like, left a very conspicuously complimentary Comment on a post hoping he would look me up. He did! [And] to my surprise, he listened to my stuff and wrote me back almost immediately asking if I wanted to collaborate. I was excited. And, then, he mentioned, to my utter disbelief, that he had just moved to f***ing Berlin! We went and got a drink that week and hit it off.”

“We have collaborated on a few projects in the meantime—a few of which will see the light of day; a few, not. “Are We Giving Up?” is the first to be released. I released my last album, WAVES, on Fogwood Records where Saynave is, also, on the roster. We put some tracks for that label together and I got to feature on some Saynave tunes. (* See: [Paulo & The Problems’] “B*tch Got Dayum!” *)  When it came time to do the remix, I asked Saynave to bring his Philly sound to the track.” “Are We Giving Up"?” (Remix) had, actually, been re-purposed as the third single from Saynave’s forthcoming album, Sorry I’m Late, I Didn’t Want to Be Here, which was preceded by singles “God Honest Truth” and “Lucky Break” featuring Rome Fortune. It will see a July 19, 2024 release on Fogwood Records. S.T.S./Sugar Tongue Slim has recently re-branded himself as Something to Say and is planning to share proper comeback album later this summer. S.T.S. is currently working on a poetry book of his rhymes turned into prose and regularly shares episodes of his Horticulture for The Culture series across both his YouTube and Instagram pages. It sounds like more Bosley remixes are soon to come, as well as additional musical collaborations with both Saynave and S.T.S.
