3 Feet High & Rising: Bay Area Emos Little Low Preview Debut EP Reasons to Grow with Single "I Am Not" (Wiretap Records)
Little Low hails from The Bay Area, formed by guitarist and vocalist Christine Atturio (Save Ends,) drummer Mike Assatly (Spirits, BearTrap,) guitarist Eric Pocock ( Discourage,) and bass player and vocalist Kris Moya (Jabber, Long Knives.) Originally started as a solo project in Boston by Atturio, Little Low released a self-titled EP of acoustic songs in 2020. After a move across the country in 2021 and missing the comradery of a full band, Atturio & Assatly asked Pocock & Moya to join the band and Little Low was born anew. After recording at The Atomic Garden Recording Studio with Jack Shirley in early 2022, the band is set to release their Reasons to Grow EP of five new instant classics this fall; with each member bringing their unique background to the table—Little Low melds driving Hardcore drums, sparkly Emo guitars, melodic bass lines, and infectious hooks and harmonies from Atturio & Moya.
It's the perfect soundtrack to your next big move. Little Low recently shared our first official taste of Reasons to Grow with jangly new single, "I Am Not." Sonically, we would say "I Am Not" falls somewhere in-between Cults & Paramore within the A-Z's of Pop-punk/Dream Pop with Pop-laden song structures and melodic cadences akin to both Jimmy Eat World & Weezer. "'I Am Not" is about making a conscious decision to move forward and grow after being around a person who wants to keep you stagnant. This song is the bridge between my acoustic songs and [the] full band. When I started playing this out at solo shows, I kept wanting to hear more power behind the song to accentuate the lyrics and emotions I was going through. Especially, where the main section of the song, (which is about forming realizations,) switches to the outro of the song, where it becomes determined and resolute, proud of the decision to move forward," frontperson Christine Atturio shared about the making and creation of "I Am Not."
"I had a GarageBand demo of the song, which I shared with Kris [Moya] and when they sent back their ideas for additional vocals, the song felt so much more complete and emotional, I knew we were really heading in the right direction with rounding out our sound. (Maybe, I shedded a few tears of joy when I first heard it!) We commissioned artist/friend Lauren Ruggiero to interpret the song into collage for the artwork. Flowers and fire play off each other as the subject makes a timely getaway. It greatly encapsulates the sentiment of "I Am Not,'" Atturio continued. Little Low's "I Am Not" is now available on streaming services with a follow-up single scheduled to drop in early September. Little Low's first full-band EP, Reasons to Grow, will see the light of day sometime this fall on Wiretap Records.
