Anthony Green & The High & Driving Band Share Singles "Don't Dance" & "Maybe This Will Be The One" from Upcoming Album Boom. Done. (Born Losers Records)
After Anthony Green left rehab in 2020, he started writing a song called "I Don't Want to Die," a sentiment that captures the raw, sometimes heartbreaking, but, also, hopeful nature of his new solo record, Boom. Done. It turned out to be a lightning strike to his song-writing and, with the help of long-time friends and bandmates Tim Arnold & Keith Goodwin of Good Old War, Green wrote one of the most intentional and formidable bodies of work in his expansive career. Out everywhere this July on Born Losers Records, Boom. Done. was written over the last couple of years following an overdose where Green's struggle with addiction led to him, actually, losing his life for up to eight minutes.
Around this time, Green was, also, formally diagnosed with bipolar disorder and while most of his music has grappled with the realities of addiction and mental illness, there's something different about the songs on Boom. Done. "I don't dance, the world around me spins like a tornado," Green passionately sings on album stand-out "Don't Dance"—out today. Its video, directed by Bob Sweeney, finds our protagonist performing at a skate park alongside listeners of all ages, including his own kids. It's a perfect visual representation of the vast world and people that Green's music appeals to with a mid-tempo Emo bounce that keeps listeners in motion throughout.
Widely known as the lead/co-lead singer of Circa Survive, Saosin, The Sound of Animals Fighting, F**kin' Whatever, and Zolof The Rock & Roll Destroyer, Anthony Green has always turned to music to find strength, but after his overdose, something changed: "I did not want to live the remainder of my life as an addict. Writing this record was a way to cope." Boom. Done. is Green's first solo album to feature a full band—The High & Driving Band—members of which Green called upon to help him write and create. Featuring Tim Arnold & Keith Goodwin of Good Old War, their earnest playing pull us through Green's introspective journey to recovery. All across this record, we watch as he stumbles and grows... we watch him move from isolation, "hanging vulnerable in darkness on the ocean floor," to triumphantly asserting his will to live.
Today, Anthony Green & The High & Driving Band have shared horn-laden singles "Don't Dance" & "Maybe This Will Be The One" from their forthcoming debut full-length, Boom. Done. Last week, Green, as part of F**kin' Whatever with Adam Lazzara, John Nolan (Taking Back Sunday,) Benjamin "Ben" Homola (Grouplove, Twin Forks,) shared a new single called "Houdini" in honor of Anthony Green's birthday with profits raised over a two-week period being donated to Prevention Point Philadelphia. Anthony Green has a string of West Coast solo dates scheduled for April and in May, will head out on The Carousel Tour with Laura Jane Grace (Against Me!, Laura Jane Grace and The Devouring Mothers) & Tim Kasher (Cursive, The Good Life) with special guests Mikey Erg, Home Is Where & Oceanator on select dates.
