QUAKERS Return with Announcement of QUAKERS II: The Next Wave & The Koreatown Oddity-assisted Single "Double Jointed" (Stones Throw Records)

QUAKERS are a Hip-Hop super-group consisting of three producers: Fuzzface (Geoff Barrow,) Supa K FKA Katalyst (Ashley Anderson,) and 7STU7 (Stuart Matthews.) Barrow is a founding member of Portishead, as well as BEAK>, and a co-founder of Invada Records, along with Ashley Anderson & Fraser Stuart. Anderson appears to have first met Barrow when they worked together on a remix, attributed to "Portishead," of Machine Gun Fell*tio's "H*rny Blonde 40." In addition to QUAKERS, Ashley Anderson is, also, an active member of both Moonrock with Michael Wright and Space Invadas with Steve Spacek. QUAKERS' third producer, Stuart Matthews, is an engineer at Invada Records and has contributed to recordings for Portishead, BEAK>, Anika, Geoff Barrow & Ben Salisbury, Crippled Black Phoenix, Turbowolf, and more.

QUAKERS released their staggering 41-track self-titled debut on Stones Throw Records on 2xCD/LP formats in 2012. It boasted features from a wide array of sharp-tongued emcees, including, but not limited to, Guilty Simpson & M.E.D. AKA Medaphoar, Jonwayne, Tone Tank, Buff1, General Steele, Krondon, Frank Nitty, Phat Kat, Prince Po, Booty Brown (The Pharcyde,) dead prez, Aloe Blacc, and Akil (Jurassic 5.) Since the release of QUAKERS' 2012 debut, Katalyst has, additionally, collaborated with one of our personal favorite emcees, Guilty Simpson, on what ended up to be a simply phenomenal full-length fittingly dubbed DETROIT'S SON released in 2015. Ever since QUAKERS (I) Fuzzface, Katalyst, now known as Supa K, and 7STU7 have been teasing a similarly-minded full-length follow-up; first, with QUAKERS MIXTAPE/Hip-Hop Quake Mix on the Stones Throw Podcast Episode 72, then, with QUAKER TAPE II as part of Stones Throw Podcast Episode 90, and even within a 2015 Katalyst interview published right here on The Witzard.

As recently as September 11, QUAKERS unveiled a 50-track instrumental mixtape/beat tape titled Supa K: Heavy Tremors, which arrived along with this rather mysterious note: "Artwork by Joe Currie. Stay tuned for more Quakers news coming very soon..." Now, less than a month later, QUAKERS have returned once more with the announcement of their long-awaited follow-up to QUAKERS (I) titled QUAKERS II: The Next Wave. It's being billed by Stones Throw as "50 minutes, 33 tracks, 31 rappers, 3 producers, one album." Said rappers featured within include Phat Kat, Guilty Simpson, Jeremiah Jae, Grandmilly, Chester Watson, Denmark Vessey, Jeru The Damaja, Jonwayne, Boog Brown, and Fat Ray.

However, for QUAKERS II, Stones Throw notes, "Katalyst has evolved into Supa K, 7STU7 has taken up Intergalactic smuggling, and Fuzzface only communicates telepathically, silently overseeing THE QUAKERS' operation from afar." Along with the album announcement, QUAKERS have shared the first single, "Double Jointed," complete with a music video created by featured artist The Koreatown Oddity and Mark Bijasa with illustrations by Aaron Douglass and other artists from Alain Locke's anthology, The New Negro (1925.) QUAKERS' "Double Jointed" Feat. The Koreatown Oddity is currently available for your listening pleasure on your digital streaming service of choice. QUAKERS II: The Next Wave is out 11/13 on Stones Throw Records.
