Alchemist Shares Previously Unreleased Cuts with Action Bronson, DOOM, Roc Marciano & Mobb Deep's Prodigy (Instagram Live Set)
It's almost a bit hard to believe that in 2020, The Alchemist & MF DOOM haven't released a full-length project together. Although, it appears as though they have a few mutual friends/collaborators in Earl Sweatshirt, WestsideGunn, Madlib's brother Oh No, and Egon from Now-Again Records. So, it doesn't seem entirely unlikely or 100% out of the question. However, the average fan may not be aware, DOOM & Alchemist have, in fact, worked together on a number of occasions on a couple lesser-known one-off tracks: "DOOMSAYER" was briefly released as part of DOOM's mysteriously scrapped THE MISSING NOTEBOOK RHYMES series for [adult swim] in 2017 (a Young Guru-producer version was released in 2012) also, in 2017, Alchemist produced "2STRINGS" from WestsideGunn & MF DOOM's super-limited edition WESTSIDE DOOM Griselda Records/Daupe! 12-inch.
Then, without much prior notice, Alchemist jumped on Instagram Live this past Monday night for an impromptu set full of neck-snappers. Honestly, we didn't even hear anything about it until Tuesday morning, when okayplayer ran an Elijah C. Wilson-penned feature. "During an Instagram Live on Monday night, Alchemist played a number of songs he has produced, some of which have never seen a proper release," Wilson explains. okayplayer hosted a number of video clips captured and shared by Twitter user αμμΩ™ (@ammofr) which featured unreleased Alchemist-produced cuts boasting rhymes from the likes of Prodigy (Mobb Deep,) Roc Marciano, and, of course, DOOM himself. While all three mysterious cuts sound great and we hope to hear them in proper officially released form one day... the untitled cut with DOOM is of particular note.
Its instrumental may sound oddly familiar and that's because it's the same beat Alchemist used on Action Bronson's "Terry" from MR. WONDERFUL (2015.) Oddly enough, the "DON'T HURT ME AGAIN" refrain remains in-tact within both versions, which I just always assumed was Bronson adlibbing. For both versions of "Terry," Alchemist incorporated an array of samples culled from Asha Puthli's "Let Me In Your Life," Mountain's oft-sampled "Long Red," The Emotions' "I Like It," and Slick Rick's "Teenage Love." One thing is for sure, Alchemist's cuts with DOOM, Roc Marciano & WestsideGunn all sound great and, fingers-crossed, we still get to hear all of these in properly released form one day. Marciano's manager, JAZZ (@JAZZUNGang) Replied to Twitter user @STONELOVE__ posting about Alchemist & Roc's unreleased joint, simply stating, "You don't have no idea what's in store.. wait for it..." For comparison's sake, feel free to re-familiarize yourself with Action Bronson's "Terry" below. Shout-out to Blunted Soul, who captured and uploaded Alchemist's "Unreleased 2020" cuts with DOOM, Action Bronson, Prodigy & Roc Marciano from Monday's Instagram Live set.
