The Boys Are Back!: Daft Punk, Pharrell & Nile Rodgers - "Get Lucky" (Coachella Teaser)
Spearheaded by a guerrilla-style video "performance" that was broadcast @ Coachella late Friday night, the robot helmeted men behind Daft Punk have finally revealed some concrete info about their upcoming album, Random Access Memories. Eager fans rushed to pull out their cell phone cameras as a 2-minute teaser clip for "Get Lucky" with Pharrell and Nile Rodgers flashed on-screen; about 1 minute+ worth of shaky video was haphazardly captured by a few tech-savvy concert go-ers. It also revealed Daft Punk's genre-blending list of friends-collaborators: Julian Casablancas, Panda Bear, Giorgio Moroder, Paul Williams, Chilly Gonzales, DJ Falcon, and Todd Edwards. Rolling Stone then posted fragmented pieces of a featured article/interview, which will most likely be released to coincide with Random Access Memories (May 20-21st). Funnyman Aziz Ansari soon Tweeted, "Can anyone confirm the rumored Daft Punk show at the Palm Springs Chuck E Cheese? #Coachella."
Sounds like this is what those 2 vague 15-second SNL commercials were building up to and I'd almost bet that a "Get Lucky" music video's coming up next. Thomas Bangalter describes the 2008-12 recording sessions for Random Access Memories as, "After three records, there was a sense of searching for a record we hadn't done... We wanted to do what we used to do with machines and samples, but with real people;" eventually recruiting session musicians who worked with the likes of Eric Clapton, Herbie Hancock, Michael Jackson, and Chic throughout the 1970-80's. While working between rigorous sessions, Daft Punk somehow found time to record 2 tracks with Kanye, which could possibly end up on his new album, Rich Black American. Director Michel Gondry, who has heard both rough tracks, describes one as sounding "solid and powerful -- I envisioned a cube when I heard it."
