Long Island’s 10 Minute Major Returns with New Line-up & Live Practice Demo Ahead of Weekend Show (Ex-members of Glassjaw/The2 Minutes Hate)

10 Minute Major is a Post-Hardcore/Melodic Punk band hailing from Long Island, New York. Its frontman, vocalist, and guitarist, Nick Yulico, was an early member of beloved Post-hardcore/Emo band Glassjaw (when they were still known as Glass Jaw with the space!) and played on their 1995 self-released demo cassette, The Impossible Shot. Yulico was briefly a member of Glass Jaw/The Glassjaw/Glassjaw from 1993-95. Soon after his departure from Glassjaw, Yulico formed his own Long Island Hardcore project, The 2 Minutes Hate, from 1996-97. The 2 Minutes Hate showcased Yulico on guitars along with singer Adam Wanaselja, bassist Brett Welch, and drummer Pete Figoni. Although they weren’t active for very long and didn’t release any music at the time, The 2 Minutes Hate finally unleashed a three-song collection entitled The Lost Tapes in May of 2021 on a then-newly minted Bandcamp page. Aside from their 1996 cassette On Becoming Human Demo (now, also, available on Bandcamp,) The Lost Tapes is their only released material. Yulico seems to have remained largely inactive over the years since, but did release a solo single in the fall of 2020 dubbed “Modern Dance.”

However, that all suddenly changed when Yulico unveiled his then-new band, 10 Minute Major, which he first unveiled on Instagram in 2022 and formed sometime in 2021. 10 Minute Major first shared their debut single, “Everyone Lies,” on Bandcamp in February 2022, played a handful of shows, and dropped their debut self-titled/untitled EP the following October. This first 10 Minute Major EP featured Yulico handling vocals/guitar accompanied by Eric Perry providing additional guitars and backing vocals, bassist Bart Ostrowski, and drummer Pete Figoni, who previously worked with Yulico as part of The 2 Minutes Hate. We thoroughly enjoyed 10 Minute Major’s debut EP and even had Yulico pen an All-around Breakdown feature exploring the makings-of each track from the EP. Not long after, 10 Minute Major shared a music video for EP stand-out “Separate Ways” utilizing found Long Island pond hockey footage throughout. Now, nearly 1.5 years later, 10 Minute Major has returned with their second semi-official release, Live Practice Demo. It’s eight new songs recorded live in the band’s practice studio with the band sharing, “no overdubs, this is Punk Rock!”

It’s a fantastic-sounding EP with lots of potential for a proper full-length release, however, this time, 10 Minute Major looks a bit different than on their 2022 EP… the band now features Yulico along with new members Chris Patota and Wayne Van Zee providing bass and drum parts, respectively. Yulico connected with Van Zee, who had posted a musicians’ ad citing influences as Drug Church, Sparta, and Jimmy Eat World. Van Zee brought in Patota on bass guitar. They had previously met while playing with the band El Duo Real in Brooklyn. 10 Minute Major’s Spotify Artist Bio section describes them as a “Long Island-based Indie Rock band [that] blends catchy choruses (inspired by Arena Rock) with Hardcore grooves.” Further down, it continues to explain that “the band’s sound is a mix of various genres, including Post-hardcore, Indie, and straight-ahead Hard Rock, with Nick’s guitar sound influenced by Dinosaur Jr., Queens of The Stone Age, and The Pretenders.” Live Practice Demo isn’t exactly (or at least I wouldn’t say) a proper follow-up to the aforementioned 2022 EP, but I would more so say a rough, yet refined, precursor to what may be in store for us next from 10 Minute Major. It’s now available to purchase or stream directly on 10 Minute Major’s Bandcamp page. We would suggest Following 10 Minute Major on Instagram to keep up to date on their happenings and upcoming gigs. As a matter of fact, 10 Minute Major’s next show and first gig with their new and improved three-man line-up will, actually, be held this upcoming Saturday, March 16, 2023 at FREDA in Queens, New York.
